The EB-5 Visa is known to have the most relaxed requirements for an immigration program in the world. There are no age requirements, no required business experience or training, any language proficiency requirements, and the EB-5 visa-holder is not required to continuously reside within the United States.
The EB-5 visa is a fantastic option for any non-American investors who wish to immigrate to the United Sates to invest in real estate or start a business. Upon attaining your EB-5 visa, you will become a permanent resident, otherwise known as being a green card holder. However, there is a minimum threshold investment level that the investor must meet to be able to legally immigrate to the US.
The requirements for the EB-5 Visa are as follows:
- You must invest in a “new commercial enterprise”
- Your investment must be at least $1,000,000 (or it can be $500,000 if invested in a targeted employment area). Disclaimer: The investment requirements are being increased from $1 million to $1.8 million, and $500,000 to $900,000 due to inflation. These increases will go into effect on 11/21/2019.
- Your investment must lead to the creation of at least 10 full-time employment positions
What is a Targeted Employment Area?
- A targeted employment area is defined as a rural area outside of a city that has a population of 20,000 or more, or it is a business with an unusually high rate of unemployment (150% the national average or more).
Why should you apply for an EB-5 Visa?
Because the EB-5 visa gives you permanent resident status you are afforded all of the rights of a United States citizen, besides the right to vote. This removes many restrictions regarding travel, taxes, and the immigration of your immediate family. You are even allowed to apply for citizenship 5 years after the approval of your EB-5 visa!
